I had a lot of trouble wit hthe speedometer cable and gear. The cable housing was too short (replacement found), and th gear fit in the housing fine, but was a wildoy wrong part, and stripped the gear in the transmission. That was replaced in the rebuild, but I nicked some teeth wit this wrong gear, and stripped teeth from it. Luckily the drive gear is OK, and when I found the right gear, everything worked.
The correct gears are all nylon. The brown phenolic one shown is for reverse rotation, meaning it probably was for an older transmission with the cable above the output shaft, not below, as my 1962 transmission requires.
