My 1963 Rambler Classic 550 Cross Country Station Wagon
Considering I've had this car since 1989, it has very little
presence on my website. I have a ton of pictures, I've driven
it completely insane places, I've documented lots of things,
they just haven't made it here. I'll remedy this in the
next year(s) or so. Unfortunately most of the photos are
chemical prints, on paper, you know, photography?
I sold the car in April 2011, after 23 years. It went to a good
home! Here are some detailed pics
of wear and tear of 47 years of service.
I've driven this car all over the place in
the U.S. though mainly in the SouthWest, and on roads and
deserts that only the four-wheel-drive people go; nothing
macho, I go really slowly in the rough, and get out and
walk scary stuff.
Various pictures of car guts and other stuff;
reasonably random.
Retrofit of aftermarket
air conditioning ; completed two years ago, I will
"shortly" turn this into a how-to. Text is written and
all.
I've run this car on propane (LPG)
only since 1988. For some reason I took pictures of new LPG tank install, from
1996. I replaced the far-too-small siamese 18 gallon (16
gal fuel capacity) tank with a big 35 gallon (28 capacity)
proper one. Cost me $600, worth every penny.
Here is what used
LPG sparkplugs look like. I change spark plugs every
two years for no good reason. The engine had about 200,000
miles on it at the time.
